Q: How much yarn do I need for Wallaby Waffles? Is the amount in the pattern for one cushion or two?
A: The yarn amounts in the pattern are for one cushion only. For each two-color cushion, you will need approx. 200 yd / 185 yd of main color (this includes the edging) and approx. 165 yd / 150 m of contrasting color. If you are using only one color, you will need approx. 365 yd / 335 m for each cushion.
The yarn used in the pattern is Knit Picks Wool
of the Andes Bulky (100% Peruvian Highland Wool; 137 yards/100g). If you are
using this yarn, you will need about 1 1/2 skeins of each color per cushion.
For two cushions, you will probably need 3 skeins of each color (6 in total).
If you're worried about running out, you may want to get 2 more of each color.
For a solid-color cushion, you will need 3 skeins of your chosen color
Q: Why do you use such small needles? I had to go up several sizes to get gauge!
A: Every knitter holds the yarn and needles slightly differently, so the tension on the yarn results in different stitch sizes. Gauge is more important than the needle you use to get it, so use whatever needle you have to. Read more in An Object Lesson In Gauge.
Q: Is it safe to buy patterns directly from your blog?
A: Yes. Cart and purchase links are processed via the Ravelry shopping cart using Paypal. You don't need to be a Ravelry member to use the links. Nobody sees your credit card information except Paypal. I will never sell your email or use it to contact you other than regarding the pattern purchase.
Q: Where can I find your patterns?
A: Most of my patterns are available in PDF format for download only. You can find them at Ravelry, KnitPicks, Kollabora, Three Irish Girls, The Sylvia Woods Harp Center, and this blog, of course. The Wallaby Waffles seat cushion and Oriel Window, Larix Decidua, Sweet Jalebi, and Dewdrop Paths lace shawls are also available in e-books and print books from KnitPicks.
Q: How can I contact you?
A: Find me as Knitdesigncaro on Twitter and Pinterest, and as ladycaroline on Ravelry. For pattern support questions, email me at knitdesignbycaroline@gmail.com.
Q: May I sell items made from KnitDesign by Caroline patterns?
A: Yes. You may make items from my patterns for personal use, for gifts, for charitable use, or for sale. You may also make multiple copies of the pattern for your own personal use (because I know it's so much easier to work from a pattern if you can write on it, fold it, generally beat it up without worrying about damaging your original). You may not distribute copies of my patterns to others or re-sell them without my prior permission. If you are interested in wholesale or as using my patterns as part of a project kit, please let me know. Chances are good that I'll say yes, and we can work out the details. If you are interested in selling my patterns through a yarn shop, most of my patterns have in-store sales enabled on Ravelry.
Q: Do you have any video tutorials?
A: No, but I'm considering it. Is there one you'd like to see? Let me know!
Q: Do you have anything else for sale besides knit and crochet patterns?
A: Not yet, but I have some new applique and quilting patterns in the works. More information will appear on this site when they become available.
Q: What is the painting in the background of your blog and Twitter page?
A: It's my own painting, an acrylic of a yellow bearded iris, painted in 2004. Here's the full picture:
